Hey guys,
need a hand here.

i currently have this mobo:
http://microdream.co.uk/pc-components/desktop-pc-computer-motherboards/dell-studio-xps-435mt-0r849j-r849j-socket-1366-i3-i5-i7-motherboard.html

and i want to buy this (usb3) external harddrive:
http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/270340/western-digital-my-book-essential-30-3tb-zwart.html#tab:info

So which usb3 adapter will work on my mobo?

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/282423/icidu-usb-30-pci-express-card.html#tab:info

or

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/294614/western-digital-usb30-adapter-pci-e-1x.html#tab:info

or
none of the above

or
it is a stupid idea.

I'm not sure about the difference between: PCI-e 1x and PCI-e 2.x 1x and which one of those is compatible with my mobo.

Thanks in advance!

That drive is USB3. Your MB only has USB2. The drive will work with your system, but you will only be able to attain USB2 speeds unless you use a USB3 adapter card.

The card you chose will work on that MB in any of the PCIE x1 slots (I think there are three).

Both cards should work fine. Make sure that they have included the LATEST driver, Visit website to check. Normally I just down load the latest website driver and use it rather that loading the one provided and finding out later, I need to update it.

I'm using the Asus U3S6 ,USB 3 plus Sata III (6), pci-e card in my i5-750 system (MB has no usb3 nor sata III Ports). Asus I think discontinued the card, Hoping that people would buy NEW MBs to get the new features - good for company bottom line, lousy for customer relations. Main reason I upgraded from i5-750 to i5-2500k was for USB 3 and native Sata III. For native USB III have to again upgrade SB -> IB

Added:
Personnally I'd Opt for the WD card (both are probably Ver 2.x cards). primary reason since I have NO experience with the other card, I would opt for a better known brand. But really it all depends on which rd party USB hub controller they are using and Did not see that in discription.

PS. If you opt for a USB3 and SATA III (6) pci-e card to get USB III for Sata III HDDs, don't bother, Sata III HDDs is a marketing tool as they do NOT bottleneck a sata II port. For SSDs 3rd party sata III controllers are NOT that good.
Bottom line is USB3 (ONLY) card is fine, but letting you know that there are also combo cards out there.
