Hey everyone, I'm here today because I'm currently trying to decide on what ram I should be picking for my new set up.

My MB I'll be using is ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X
My processor is a AMD FX 4170 4.2GHz 4.3GHz Turbo Boost
GPU is EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 v2 1024mb GDDR5 SuperClocked 192-Bit

I need something that will fit under my HSF COOLER MASTER Hyper 612 PWM 120mm Sleeve

Now on to the Ram, I've been looking at these sets of 8gb Ram but I'm having a hard time figuring out which is the best option for me. My computer is used for gaming.
My MB says it can support 1866 ram without OC so I'm going for that.

1866 Ram options:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

ALSO here is a 1600 Ram option, I've been looking into Mushkin a lot because I've seen nothing but good reviews on them and they are an American based company which is something that I really like!
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

I'm trying to lean more towards 8 Cas Latency, not that I know exactly what it is but from what I know Cas is how fast your ram can process things? If that's the case, would it be better to get a 1600 ram set since I've noticed those are mostly 8 Cas, whereas the 1866 ram sets are usually 9 Cas.

Also does ram play a factor in what kind of PSU I should be getting? Right now I have a no name 500w PSU so I'm not sure if it'll hold up with my new set up.

Also I'm looking for something blue or black since my set up is black/blue.

Thanks!

I have this set-up and I run these:

AMD Phenom II X4 980BE @ (4.2GHz) Deneb
ASUS M5A99X EVO
COOLER MASTER GeminII S524 120mm CPU Cooler
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 CL9 1.5v

I suggest you stick with the lower profile RAM and do not get too cute.
and TBH I do not like any of those choices..

look at at the Crucial sticks and the timings they have... 9-9-9-27

Wow thanks a lot! Those are amazing! So glad I decided to stop by here before making my decision. Thanks so much. The LEDs are awesome lol can't wait to see these in my case.

I was able to find these on Newegg but there's 2 with different prices and I'm not seeing a difference other than the price, maybe there's something I'm not seeing that you can point out to me.
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) $62.99
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) $59.99

What PSU are you using?

Yeah I didn't really want to go with G.Skill but everyone I know talks about them being the best. But I never really liked the look of them. I liked the Mushkin ones a lot because they are clean looking and seem good but these Crucial ones are amazing lol.

Yeah they don't have much of a choice on frequency. But oh well these Crucial's are legit. I'm going to have to move my comp so I can see inside of it now lol.

Hows this MB been treating you? I figured it was a good price range for a MB and it seemed to have good stuff and reviews.
