I'm trying to trouble shoot a friend's network which contains a toshiba laptop running Win7 and a desktop running XP. When I log my lenovo laptop on to the network, I can see both computers-however the toshiba can't see the desktop and vice versa. My friend would like to be able to use the hp printer on the desktop (which is located in the basement).

I've checked everything I can think of and am hitting the wall. Any and all ideas are appreciated!

Firewall(s). Workgroup names must be the same (MSHOME as per XP). See Windows Help and Microsoft site.

ok! first thing you need to check your firewall and also to check the IP range of both computers.

make sure that file sharing is enabled on both computers.

please let me know if this solves your problem.
