Hi, I plan on building a i5 based gaming machine, Ill probably go with the i5-2500k. I was wondering what motherboard I should get, considering that compatible lga1155 mobos start as low as 50$ and some go as high as 300$. So I was wondering what chipset I should be looking at getting, and what kind of perfomance differences can be seen between a low end board and a high end lga1155.

Although future-proofing is flawed logic, the $50 1155's won't really give you any room to improve your build. I'm biased, but my ASRock Extreme 4 (or 3) does everything I need it do, and has room for add-ons later. I would say go mid-range. Between $125-200 for sure. Motherboard isn't a place to skimp.

So would you recommend a Z77?

Hey I have the Intel® Core™ i5-3570K and the Intel DZ77GA-70K but any of the Z77 chipset based boards from about $120 would work for you. A lot of people have used the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 and find it to be a very feature rich board at a good price point.
