When I switched to W7x64 last night I tried to reinstall my 32bit m$office. I popped the disk in and it says please insert a disk into the drive.

I then popped in another disk to check the drive and media player started.

The disk isn't scratched.

I have not done any additional installation of drivers for the drive.

Could this be the problem with my office install disk? Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Solution
Check both other DVDs and CDs in the drive, sometimes the laser pickups used for one or the other will fail or get dirty. Try to clean the sensors with a cotton swab or something similar.

Thanks for the reply. I did try that and the disk indeed works on another computer.

I've also:
-reflashed the dvd drive w/ the latest firmware
-made sure I had the latest bios

I tried another

commercial dvd movie
dvd+r
cd

they all worked for some reason it seems like it doesn't like these 16x verbatim dvdr

ARGH, RAGE!

In the middle of writing this response I discovered that both the dvds I tried that didn't work were 16x dvdr rw. This drive can only read 12x rw...

So it guess it's solved.

I could've sworn it worked before!

Thanks for trying
