Can i mix a sstock 6970 with an aftermarket 6870 for crossfire ?

hey does anyone know if i can cross fire my stock 6870 that i bought when they first came out with a newer 6870 by XFX , the cards don't look the same because the newer XFX has two fans on the same and the first card i bought was a radeon ...

You cannot crossfire two cards AMD/ATI cards that do not share the first 2 digits with the exception of the 5970, which works with 58xx cards due to having 5870's as the two GPU's on it's card.

That means the 6870 can crossfire with a 6870 or 6850.
