So for this christmas my parents decided to buy me a computer. They meant well bet they really shouldn't have been left alone to do this. I was looking at the specs of it and i can't decide if i should use it because it will be just as good, or if i should just stick with my old one. The only part that really concerns me is the cpu. In my current build I have a AMD Athlon II X3 440 Rana while in the computer they got me has an Intel I-3 2120. I looked at the specs of each and I can't really understand what makes a difference so I was wondering if anyone on here knows which is better and if i should just ask them to return it and let me pick out new parts (they said that if I didn't like it we could always do that)

Thanks for the help

well everything but the motherboard and hard drive is going to be the same so I don't think that those will affect anything

Because you have an Athlon ll you should switch to the i3 but if you had a phenom ll that would be better.

is there really any reason other than name that the i3 is better. I don't want to just go by word-of-mouth if the the whole-hearted specs say otherwise

here's a comparison between a core i3 2100 (lower clocked than your 2120) vs athlon ii x3 440. the 2100 is faster, so the 2120 should be a bit more faster than 2100.

still, it depends on the rest of specs like gfx card, motherboard, type of usage (gaming, rendering, web browsing), psu, display and display resolution etc.

As stated, the i3 is a much better CPU even though it is a dual core CPU instead of a tri core CPU. It performs very well against AMD's Phenom II X4 CPUs in games that costs more money.

Thank you. That makes me feel much better about the purchase and makes me not feel like parents are completely tech-illiterate
Thats pretty much exactly what I wanted to see
