Hey guys, so let me cut to the chase. I just completed my 2nd build a few days ago. Now i noticed that my CPU temp is alittle above normal. My idle temps can go from around 38c-44c, when i first checked the temperature in my BIOS, i noticed that it was at 42C, it got me alittle worried so i started looking all over for normal i7 2600k temps when handling diff amount of loads.

I powered up the new Star Wars game, and monitored my temps. At times they reached a max of about 72C, and thats just running the one game on a fresh new Comp. But they usually hovered around the upper 60s 65C+

I went to my first build, and did the same. It has a i5 2500k, and my idle temps are usually 36C and under. Running the game ill get to 60-62C, and at times it will even drop to around 55C+.

Now there are a few things that i believe might be the problem.

1. I am worried that i might have applied the thermal paste too sloppy, i spread it a little, but i might have put alittle more than i needed, and let the rest of the spreading come from the Stock cooler.

2. The case is has inadequate cooling. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156078 The link is to the case that i purchased. It has a good amount of fans, but unlike my first build, it does not offer the option of fan speeds.

This is the total build here.

You should get a 3rd party cooler such as a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus. I just got a 2600k too and they run very hot. Even with this cooler I am only at 4.3 GHZ right now because of wanting to keep temperatures below 70 degrees. 72 degrees Celsius is the max you want to go officially for Intel, so if your getting that when your just gaming if you stress test you would be too hot.

if using the stock intel cooler make sure all the pins are fully clicked home--this is a common issue

plus 1 to the hyper 212 plus or similar

but these dont run extremely hot--if you have mounted the heatsink properly and have good case cooling and good cpu cooler then temps should be pretty low

i am at 5ghz on my 2600k and am idling at 20c and havent seen over 57c on load--though i dont do

prime95--those temperatures are with lots of stuff running in the background and my cctv cameras running and

playing arkham city at the same time

using a corsair h80--but similar temps should be acheivable with a high end air cooler

i just found this thread an i call bullshit. unless your room is 10c, 57c is impossible at 5.0 ghz on a 2600k. i have a nh-d14 at 4.5 and i see 68c max in prime so there is no way that an equalish air cooler gets beat that bad.

your statement is flat wrong, i could ask you to prove that your cpu could reach a max 57c in prime at 5.0 ghz but you couldnt do that.

My 2500k oc'ed to 4.8ghz has loads of 60-68 :pt1cable: Well it depends on case airflow. I am sure you could get those temps with a custom liquid cooling kit. (switching over to a swiftech h20-220 ultima xt) :)

What case? >w<

yeah but the guy was using a h80 water cooler at 5.0 with an i7. you have to remember that an i7 normally takes more volts to be stable at the same clock and hyperthreading creates more heat. on top of that he SAID 57c MAX lol.

maybe you ought to read the post properly before calling it bullshit--i never once said those temperatures were

when running prime95

i clearly said

"though i dont do prime95--those temperatures are with lots of stuff running in the background and my cctv

cameras running "

the ambient temperature in here is 15c --i dont like heat

the case is a silverstone raven rv02 --3 x 180mm fans on bottom with all filters removed to allow higher airflow and the h80 with a push pull config

heres a screen capture

about 9 minutes 30 seconds of running it at about 70% load with a load of programs running--which is what i

already said I DONT DO PRIME95

its not a realistic test of everyday use of your pc--to me if i can run all the stuff i use at the same time and it never

crashes then its stable

fair enough but your sentence structure was what cause the problem. your two lines that seemed like two statements to me and others was one to you. idk why it has a space in the middle of it but all your post are like that so thats room for confusion.
