I have considered building a new rig that is solely for gaming in the first quarter of 2012 . Apart from gaming i will be using the rig for running autodesk applications . My current rig platform is LGA775 which i found out to be essentially dead with no upgrade path . My budget is around 50000.00INR( that is pretty much equal to US$800 considering computer parts over here come at a premium of nearly 10-20% over their US counterparts and in some case exceeds ). I currently have an ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP which i intend to SLI later , that would save me some money .
Should i go with an AMD build as i have heard that they are pretty cost effective or should i go with a intel platform ?
Here are the components that i would need : CPU, mobo, RAM, Case, PSU ( considering SLI ), HDD and a 2nd GTX460.
Would I be better off replacing my GTX460 with a new card or run a SLI setup ? What is ma best bet ?
Can you guys give me some suggestions so that i can start saving some money

With regards , Scapegoat_44 :hello:

CPU: i5 2500k
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Mobo: Asrock Z68 Extreme 3, GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3, GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3
Ram: Corsair, Gskill, Kingston or Mushkin 2x4GB 1.5V CAS9 1600Mhz unless you need to save some money then 2x2GB 1.5V CAS9 1600Mhz will do
Case: Antec 300 ( with 2 extra 120mm fans), Cooler Master HAF 912 - for ones with good airflow - lot of other cheap alternatives should exist.
PSU: Generally a 750W PSU will handle the SLI and then possibly a future SLI or a fast single card.
Corsair TX750 V2, XFX Core 750W, Antec HCG-750
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB, unless you need to save some money WD blue 500Gb

Those to begin with, then if you can still afford it, get the 2nd GTX460 for SLI.

It adds up to 46.7k so you'll be good on the budget. Also, i'm not really happy with the motherboard I've suggested but it'll still get the job done.
Also you might want to look into an SSD since you have a Z68 chipset

if you aren';t building until 2012, you might want to wait and check out Bulldozer (due out next month) and/or wait for the 22nm Ivy Bridge in April 2012. The nnew AMD 7000 series and the NVidia 700 series should be coming out by then as well

That sounds like a pretty good build . BTW, should i get a CPU cooler ? Wouldn't i be fine with a stock cooler if the cpu comes with one as i don't intend on OCing ?
Where would you place a GTX460 SLI in terms of performance ? Is the SLI scaling better ? Can i expect massive drop in pricing of the GTX460 when the next series of GeForce cards are launched ?

Thanks for your help mate

EDIT : And the motherboard's SLI mode @ x16x4 surely scks like you said . Any alternatives perhaps ??

My Bad !! But the babe runs very fine .

Can you suggest me a good monitor that runs at 1680*1050 that is available here and just make sure to quote its tentative price ?

Thanks mate

I would mostly build it in Mar 2012 . Any say on the pricing of the Bulldozer series ?

The graphics card option seems out as i intend to SLI my GTX460 with a new one . Can you mention a good website for knowing the price of the components as the vendors tend to make a fool out of me ? One store guy even said that the 550Ti was twice better than the GTX460 when i was in the market for one .

Nothing but rumors yett, but the FX8150 should be about $245, 6150 about $205 and the 4150 about $175

The mobo's I suggested all support 8x/8x SLI to my knowledge.

The CPU cooler helps with temps and noise anyway, and OC'ing with sandy bridge is so easy that would be silly not to do it.
4GHz can be done simply by changing some multiplier values from the bios, not other modifications needed.

Sorry mate , edited the wrong thread !!! My Bad !!

The 16x4x SLI was for the mobo that r1ahul suggested . I m pretty much a noob when it comes to OCing CPUs as i haven't tried it . Heard that Q8200 is a very bad overclocker .
Have your say on the GTX460 SLI setup and i would love to game at 1680*1050 . Where would you place the SLI setup in the graphics hierarchy ? Does it have a good scaling record ?
Thanks for your help mate

add another 460 for SLI.
