My question is whether there is that much noticeable performance difference between a i5-480m vs. i5-2430 for the everyday user.
Have found a HP dv7-4287cl using the elder i5-480m with all the trimmings that i am looking for but then also saw a Toshiba Satellite p775-s7368 using the newer i5-2430m with less trimming but better cpu and gpu. Is there really thast much of a difference?

A quick look there is about 10%+ performance difference on the CPU. You can look up the GPU difference as well on that site!
