Hey I am currently upgrading my build going to the i5 2500k group and since I'm doing a whole make over I have not purchased a video card since 2007 so I've been out of the loop for some time I was curious what would be the best video card or suggested video card for this resolution(1680x1050) I would like to say my budgets at 250 but I wouldn't even think I'd need to spend that much but I could be wrong all the answers would be great thanks

(I'd love to be able to max almost everything)

You can SLI 2 cards on that motherboard.

At that resolution a GTX560TI would be the best bet if you want to go for nvidia. Cheaper models do not offer that much performance. You will see how fast it is when you play your first game :).

Don't buy the non TI version. Also according to best rating on newegg EVGA has the highest quality cards.

I have an AMD 6850 with an i5 2500, same resolution and on average, I get 35fps with Crysis, everything maxed. Never seen it go lower than 30.
Crysis 2 goes up to 40fps on average (the normal dx9 version), once again all maxed.
If you want a full 60fps, the something slightly above a 6850 would fit perfectly and your budget seems to allow for something much more powerful :na:
But yes, you can max almost everything with a 6850 and still get 30+ fps.

250 what? If $ then..

Around 250 you should buy a 6950 or a gtx560ti, witch ever you prefer, similar speeds, so it mostly goes witch company, AMD or Nvidia.

Some will go for AMD some with Nvidia. So chose this based on witch ever you like. Also for that resolution you do not need the 2Gb 6950, only for multiple monitor gaming or if you have a monitor with above 1920x1080 resolution. The 560ti does not come in 2Gb, at list i have not seen any.

Equally important, do you plan to crossfire or SLI 2 cards in the future? If so most buy the card depending on what the motherboard supports. If it supports crossfire and SLI then chose based on witch one you like. Also if you buy a motherboard that has one 16xPCI-E 2.0 and one 4x PCI-E 2.0 forget about adding the second video card.

PS: you won't be able to max out metro 2033 at that resolution with a 6850 :). Crysis 2 i can play at the highest setting at 1680x1650 with my 5770, not 30FPS all the time but can play it :d .

These are all great responses I was leaning towards a Nvidia based card because thats just what I favor from personal experiences so

I am getting this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583

But I don't think I can afford at the moment to sli

I'm guessing the gtx 560ti is probably the best bet :) is there anything in the 180-200 range that can preform just as well or would getting a 560 ti just really not have to make me worry about running games at all thats what it's seems like to me.
