Approximate Purchase Date: no more than 2 months

Budget Range: sub $500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: general family computing, might throw a video card in in the future for light gaming

Parts Not Required: need everything

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Country of Origin: U.S.A

Parts Preferences: none

Overclocking: maybe

SLI or Crossfire: no

Monitor Resolution: depends, probably 1600X900

Additional Comments: My parents laptop broke so they need a new computer. One thing I was wondering was if I could reuse the hard drive and the os on it to help bring down the cost. It is has a capacity of 320gb, rpm of 5400, and windows 7.

More about : 500

AT $500, I would bother building a system..... you won't be able to buy parts comparable to a carefully chosen store bought system of the same price....the mass marketers simply can buy the parts a lot cheaper than you can one at a time.... ..At about $800, I find I can build comparable systems cheaper than I can buy a store bought system.

Jack: thats because you don't really try :)

sky has a decent build, however, when you add the power cord to the Amntec 380W...you might as well get the Corsair 430W instead at 44.99 w/ $10 Mail in rebate

Actually, taking a quick look at best buy's website, the standard for a $400 computer is a pentium processor, 4gb ram, and around 500 gb hard drive. So the build sky listed (thanks by the way, awesome build) is superior in that it would have a better processor, case, and psu.
