First NAS build

I've been contemplating for some time setting up NAS for my home network. I have a Pentium D system just sitting in the closet and I want to drop a 2TB hard drive in there. I'd like the computer to be sharing primarily music and videos.

Will a Pentium D 920 / GTS 8800 system be good enough for simple file sharing over the network?

Also, should I use a specific router? Does my mobo need to support 10/100/1000 ethernet?

the hardware seems to be sufficient and the 10/100 NIC should work.
