Your motherboard has an AM2 socket. If you want to use a Phenom II, you will need to get a motherboard with an AM2+ or AM3 socket.

I read that an AM3 processor will fit in an AM2 socket, because it has the ability to use both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, so this is not true?

Sorry, it the forum didn't send me a email about the response, so I didn't see it until now.

An AM3 processor will fit in the socket, but you won't be able to use it unless you find a BIOS update that specifically mentions adding support for the processor. If you can't you may just want to play it safe and get a new mobo.
