Installing Windows without 'RAID', with 'NCQ', ie. SATA Mode 'AHCI' is generally seen as a good thing, (more speedy drive.)

Yet I've seen example tests that show that it actually slows drives down, I'm confused.

Do I install with or without 'NCQ'? The manual doesn't help!

EDIT: Just thought of another related question; I have a couple of old SATA drives full of data that I would like to use on my new build,

they were formatted and written from a very old 'K8 Triton' board. Can I use them 'as is' with NCQ, or do I need to save the data and reformat?

What do you guys think....

No need to reformat when you tun on NCQ. You're just changing the method for accessing and writing data, not the data or the data format itself.

On the whole, NCQ is faster. There are isolated circumstances where it could theoretically be a little bit slower, but that can be safely ignored

OK

Many thanks for that abekl.

I understood most of the older systems and terms, but the buggers keep changing them.

I guess that's what they call progress. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for this game.

Anyway thanks again.
