I'm considering an Acer GD235HZbid 23.6" 3D 120 Mhz. Not for 3D, just for the refresh rate. How much of a performance hit does on take with a 120Hz monitor? Will have 580 GTX/i7 2600K.

Otherwise I'm considering a Dell U2312HM IPS model.

Also, does the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe have great onboard audio? Should I spring for a soundcard? Using two speakers, Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass, which I like a lot.

For non-SLI + best onboard audio, which is a good mainboard?

Prefer 23", prefer matte finish, and the base on the SAMSUNG S23A950D and S23A750D are weird/ugly.

Question remains: How much of a performance hit does one take with a 120Hz monitor (580 GTX/i7 2600K)? Is it a bad idea to sacrifice FPS for the glowing reviews I see for 120Hz?

It won't affect your FPS one bit. It will only affect your FPS if you use 3D and you have to use the Nvidia 3D kit for that.

Really? To play at over 60Hz at 2D doesn't take more GPU the higher you go?

Anyone on the onboard audio of current motherboards? I read somewhere about a particular mboard -- I think it was Gigabyte -- that had stellar audio. Can't find the link now.

It just means the monitor refreshes at 120 and not 60.

As far as onboard sound is concerned ...I haven't heard anything about one board being better than the other in that regard.

25w for 80$ you can do better than that- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... great savings for this month.
or a little higher end- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... 200w of power

Didn't ask for that, don't agree, would like to stay on topic.

Refresh rate is in the eye of the Beholder. I cannot tell "personally" hardly any difference from 60Hz to 120Hz. I would go with a Samsung 27" 1080P LCD screen. Best screen Ive come across in awhile and lots of screen acreage over a 23.6" BTW the 120Hz is more of a function for watching movies.. because movies are captured at 24FPS and 120 is an exact multiple of 24 whereas 60 is not. Therefore the playback is more fluid, "for movies".

Look at HT Omega sound cards if you're in the market. Most onboard sound for $175+ mobos is really good though.
