BIOS update compatibility

Last response: in Motherboards

I am working with parts from a PREBUILT Asus Essentio (CM1730). The mobo inside is a M4A78LT-M and it started at BIOS v.0502.
I purchased a Phenom II x6 1055T and wanted to install it. However, when I tried to update using EZ flash to the proper BIOS (0605) it consistently came up with the message "ROM ID in the file is incompatible with existing BIOS!".
I found out that the site contains separate BIOS updates for individual motherboards and for prebuilt desktops. The newest version they had in common was 0601 so i successfully downloaded and installed it from the CM1730's page. However, it still won't let me update to 0605 or any other BIOS on the mobo's page.

Is there any way to install the BIOS for the standalone mobo or am i limited to the desktop updates?
Flashing the BIOS completely would be a last resort... would it even work though? is there any way around it?

For compatible bios, check motherboard revision.
