I7-860 with 2 hd5970's

Will I have a problem with bottlenecking if my i7-860 is clocked at 3.3 with 2 hd5970's? If so, what clock speed should I get to in order for there not to be a bottleneck? (I know this is case specific with other hardware but in general what would be a safe clock?) Also, I'm sporting a 850tx psu, I checked AMD and they recommend an 850 for a 5970 quadfire setup. But I have been reading other forums where they generally recommend a higher PSU but don't have any data to go along with it. I guess once games become more taxing on my system I will see the need for overclocking but for now I think I will be fine so noworries with the extra power consumption due to overclocking. Am I better off looking into sandy bridge for this type of setup then? I know people have reached 4ghz with this processor but not for everyday uses. I want a stable over overclock that I don't have to worry about frying my machine. If that's the only way I'm going to be able to accommodate 2 hd5970's then I might as well look into an i7-2500k. what about the power supply?

Depends on what your cooling solution is, imo people like you with the 1st gen i5/i7 should be perfectly good to go. Just check temps and make sure they are under I would say about 70C. Which exact power supply do you have?

I have the corsair 850tx. When I got it I had in mind the thought of adding another card...

its the Cooler master hyper 212.. haf 922 case and stock cooling on the gpu.

Buy another fan for the 212 for a push pull setup, you should be able to reach 4ghz with no problem

These are easier to overclock than most SB so 4ghz shouldn't be to much to ask even for a novice on this platform.
