OK, so I have set up a new Core i3-540 system. I do not play any games, so I opted to just use the integrated Intel HD Graphics versus buying a discreet card.

I am using an HDMI cable to carry both Audio and Video to my Vizio 22" LCD, a VA220E.

Images and Video look absolutely stunning. However; text, primarily displayed in web browsers and my email app (Thunderbird 5) look very poor. I have been researching this for a few days now... It seems as tough I do in fact have a match between my graphics settings and the display's native resolution, 1280*720 @ 60hz.
I have tried adjusting the ClearType text settings as well, with no improvement.

I do not currently have an extra VGA or audio cable to use... So I would really like to correct this problem and continue using my HDMI cable instead of spending money on VGA and Audio cables (why spend money to use older analog signals)?

I would be oh so very pleased if we could rectify this issue without having to abandon my HDMI connection.
