Hi folks,

I really got a serious trouble with a new HDD which already costs me a new OS and a new MoBo.

System Specs:

Asus K7VT
Athlon 650
256 MB RAM PC133
Elsa Erazor X2 (GForce DDR)
Soundblaster Live! Platinum
AVM Fritz!PCI ISDN Controller
Promise Ultra ATA 100

Onboard IDE:
1: IBM 20.5GB (WinMe or 98SE, really doesnt matter)
IBM 8.4GB (Linux Only, no partition used for win)
2: Mitsumi CDW 4801 TE
Asus AS40 CDROM

Promise:
1: Samsung SV4084H
----
2: ----

Boot device is the 20.5 GB HDD on onboard IDE1

I needed the new HDD cause I ran out of space and hence
all onboard IDE is stuffed I had to install the Promise.

The problem occurs, when I format the logical drives
on the Samasung HDD.

Intended Partition for the SV4084H
1st: primary 4096MB - NTFS (for use with Win2kPro)
2nd: primary 2048MB - NTFS ( " )
3rd: extended partition
1st logical: 10GB
2nd logical: 10GB
3rd logical: 8 GB
4th logical: 2 GB
5th logical: left space (ca 2.1GB)

Partitioning using either FDISK or XFdisk 0.9 beta
just works fine.

the drives appear in win98SE/me and can be formatted properly.

However, after reboot the 1st logical drive is still unformatted.

When formatting the Drive in DOSMode however, I get a Partiton Error Message.

Consulting Norton Disk Doctor I get a wrong Chain in the Extended Partitin error.

Partitioning the drive in 2k or linux causes no problems at all but as soon win9x/me is used the problem reappears.

I tried that on my previous K7M as well and on a CubeX-E
and got the same results.

However when I took the Promise + Drive to a friend of mine
running an Athlon 800 and K7V the drive works just fine.

I installed the latest Bioses and drivers for the Promise and the K7VT and all other Cards (only using Reference Drivers for the GForce) switched the Cards in their slots,
tried running the 40 GB on the onboard controller,
used the Samsung tools to check the drive (all ok) and still I got no go.

I really dont know any further.

Who can help ?
