Hello,

I'm looking to build a new system. These are the parts I already have:

a) Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz
b) Asus P9X79 PRO Intel X79
c) Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ

I want a powerful PC that will run games for the next 18 months on high settings. I don't think I need 16GB but am open to this.

Any advice would be appreciated on which ones to get.

Ah! I see you made a decision, ASUS motherboard.
As you said, you don't need 16GB for games. 8GB is more than enough, so I would choose between these 2:
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460&name=Desktop-Memory

OR

CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB Memory Model CML8GX3M1A1600C10
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460&name=Desktop-Memory

The only differences is that the sniper series is rated at a higher clock 1866Mhz vs the 1600Mhz of the Vengeance, but the clock rates won't really affect your computer speed...the differences will be so minuscule that you won't notice and the number of sticks. If you wish to have 64GB of RAM in the future, go with the Corsair Vengeance, otherwise the G.SKILL Sniper will allow you only 32GB (due to number of RAM slots)

For high end gaming, you dont need that much high budget. i7-3770k + z77 mobo+ 8gb ram is enough for high end gaming with 7970 for 18 month. Why waste that much money.
