So I was a retard and posted this in the wrong forum at the first time. I'll post it here now and in the proper format :D

Hi all,

I just got back from deployment and am building myself a new computer to play all the games that I have missed out on. My budget for this computer is $2000 but I don't really see a reason to even spend that much haha. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions!

Approximate Purchase Date: this week

Budget Range: 1500-2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: This baby will be a pure gaming machine

Parts Not Required: don't need any peripherals. I also already have a 1TB HDD and a DVD/R drive.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg or amazon. i also have a frys down the street heh

Country of Origin: USA, California

Parts Preferences: no preference, whatever has the best performance

Overclocking: eh probably not

SLI or Crossfire: also probably not

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1200

Additional Comments: Quiet is good, but I wouldn't sacrifice performance for how quiet it is.

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz 314.99
ASUS P8P67 DELUXE $214.99
EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) $489.99
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 $159.99
OCZ Vertex 2 100GB SATA II MLC SSD $189.99
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $117.99
COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RS850 PSU $119.99

Total Cost: $1608

Yeah, as much as I was looking forward to having an i7 I think I will do the sensible thing and go with the i5 2500k.

Great MOBO choice, I have it and love it!
Get the Vertex 3 (sata3)
Plan on dual or triple monitoring? You said "pure gaming" I assume most gamers want 3 monitors. (at least 2 so you can offload skype vent etc on other monitor while gaming.
If you have a 2K budget, go ahead and get the i7. Just in case you decide to do other work on the machine like editing those fraps sessions.
Don't skimp on a video card. Get the best you can.

Good call on the Vertex 3, definitely will swap that out. I probably will end up getting a 2nd monitor at some point, but I think the GX580 should be able to handle it. The 2nd monitor will be used for movies, browsing, vent etc. nothing too taxing.

The price difference between the 580 and 590 is so drastic! I don't think it justifies the performance increase. I do have 2k to spend, but I don't want to just waste it all either, you know?

Below is a build that makes no sacrifices. It has a motherboard that's great at overclocking, plenty of power and efficiency, an overclocked GTX 580, the fastest 120GB SSD, high speed and low latency RAM, and it should be nearly silent. The power supply and motherboard will allow you to add a second GTX 580 later if you change your mind on SLI.

Silverstone Temjin Series TJ08B-E: $99
This has quiet cooling for less. Personally I'd go with black aluminum over a giant red LED.

Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1450RPM: $15.95
For the back. Quiet and moves a lot of air.

Corsair Professional Series HX850: $163.99 ($143.99 after rebate)
One of the most efficient power supplies ever, which will make it cooler and quieter.

ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z: $169.99
Republic of Gamers board. All the overclocking and gamer features on a Z68 board.

Intel Core i5-2500K: $219.99
Other posters have mentioned that it gives a gamer the same performance as an i7-2600K.

Thermalright Silver Arrow: $82.99
The best CPU cooler. Allows high overclocks while maintaining a good temperature and staying quiet thanks to PWM fans.

Akasa PWM Splitter Cable: $5.99
To connect the HSFs on one 4-pin motherboard header.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 1600MHz C8-8-8-24 (2 x 4GB): $55.99
This has lower latency than your RAM. No gamer needs more than 4GB, so this will be plenty.

EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 580: $474.99
Overclocked. Rear exhaust won't blow hot air into your case and will be better for SLI in the end.

Patriot Wildfire 120GB: $254.99 ($214.99 after rebate)
Fastest SSD out there.

Total: $1,543.87 ($1,483.87 after rebates)

The 2500Kis good but i would recommend an Ivy Bridge CPU - The Intel Core i7 3770K Processor or the i5 3570K

As for the video card i recommend a NVIDIA Kepler card - the GTX 670 or The GTX 680 (both of which is a kepler Card)
