Hey guys,

I was wondering if I should get one GTX 580(for now) or two GTX 460's?

Let me know what would be good.

I have around $600 to spend on the graphics. I just want to get the best for the money.

i5 2500k Sandy Bridge
EVGA P67 SLI LGA 1155
CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 8GB (4 x 2GB)
etc.
etc.

get the faster single card IMO. You will have far less troubles than SLI. Just remeber you need a good PSU to power high end cards. Dont skimp on that. A gtx580/2x 460's really needs a good quality 650w PSU from Antec, Seasonic, XFX or Corsair (TX or better series)

So what troubles have you had with SLi then?

If you have that much money and want good value, then SLI is definitely the way to go. GTX 460s in SLI trade blows with/beat out a single GTX 580, but why stop there? Like mousemonkey said, you'll be wanting SLI GTX 560Ti's or even 570s on that kind of budget, and they'll run all over a single 580.

If you have 600 bucks then I would go with dual gtx 570's. That would give you way more power than a single 580. As long as you are fine with reference coolers you can get 570's for $300 each on newegg after rebate. Either that or go with a single 580 as that would allow you to upgrade later on and stick another 580 in for sli, but the 580 does also carry a price premium being the fastest singe GPU card
