How much does your dream build cost?

Here, I'll start :)

Highlights include a total price of $40k, 10 tb of ssd, classified sr2 with x2 i7 990x, 4 way sli gtx 590's, 3 moniters, a $350 stereo system, and 48gb of ddr3 ram clocked at 1600 mhz.

Post your highlights of your dream build as a reply!

BTW, what you post doesn't have to be what you own. I most definitely don't own this computer :P its an opinion on your dream build.

More about dream build cost
  1. 10tb of SSD sounds a bit silly.

    Why not a 10TB RamDisk!?
  2. My dream build only costs $500. If I were to add an SSD then it'd be about $650 max.

    Part list? :)
  5. CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2

    RAM: G.Skill 8GB DDR3 @1333 PSU:
    HEC 500watts Rapter II Case:
    Cooler Master USP 100 Red

Lol! what's good about this dream build is that I can actually afford it in a few months or so.
  6. I thought you cvould only use Xeon cpu's with the Cassified sr2. I don't know how you would get to 40k with what you posted.
  7. I have mine sitting on my desk , I will post it later as it will take me about 30 to 45 min to list.
  8. Approx $5000

    AMD FX-8150
    Asus Crosshair V
    AMD HD6990
    32 GB RAM
    1 1TB WDC Black
    6 2TB WDC Blacks
    Seasonic x-850
    CM HAF X
    3 Samsung S24A350H
    Custom Water Cooling
    Custom HiFi Sound System
  9. Yours isn't even possible. You can't run 4 GTX590s, only two.

Mine would be something similar. 1 of the fastest SSDs (no raid) with a bunch of 3TB drives attached. Might go 990 or way OC'd 2600k. Max out the ram. Run 2 6990s or a 3way CF/SLI setup. GIANT projectors on the walls for my three screens, hooked up to a home theater 7.1 system. $350? More like $3500 just for the speakers. All in a special room with no windows and sound padding.
  10. I've got it now... Mostly

    i7-2600k OC'd to 4.4
    8GB 1866 ram
    Need SSD
    Need dual 6990's Crossfire
    Gigabyte Mobo
    Antec 600 case
    Corsair H series liquid cooler
Dual 24" 1080 monitors, tried 3 monitor... 5' of monitor was a bit much
  11. at the moment-
    a 2600k@4 ghz
    maximus iv xtreme
megahalems with coolermaster sickflows in pull push
    corsair dominator 8 gb RAM
    a crucial m4 128 gb and 2 WD blacks in RAID 0
coolermaster silent pro 1000w 80+ gold
    thermaltake armor+ full tower
a msi lightning extreme gtx 580 3 gb
    27 inch asus LED monitor
    Razor mouse and keyboard.
    corsair gaming series audio
    and some other peripherals......

    and
    and
    and
    its only CAD$3500 LOL
  12. I dont know people askin for 32,48 GB of ram, Do you know what is the ram for?.
You will need that amount and more ram if yo are planning to mount a web or database server for thousands of people.
So, if your planning to play games (no matter wich), programming , internet browsing, music; everything at the same time, you wont need more tha 6-8 GB (+ windows 7, antivirus, firewall, torrents, ares, etc.).
You are right on the 10 TB of SSD (in Raid 0), with that everything should be as fast as a mouse click.
  13. i dont think that it is possible to copy a large amount say 100 gb in "a mouse click"
yeah you see my build(posted above you)i have only 8 gb and it destroys any game.
no one needs 32 or 48 gb unless they "eat" RAM at a rate of 1 mb/day

And here I am wanting to run three 100"+ projectors. To each his own I guess.

Ram drives. Makes SSDs look slow.
  15. Bigger RAM for Ram Disk and No Page file
  16. Okay ill give it a shot:

    i7-2600k - oc'd 4.4Ghz
    ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME
    CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 16GB (4 x 4GB)
    ADATA S511 Series AS511S3-480GM-C 2.5" 480GB x4 (Raid 0)
Western Digital Caviar Green WD30EZRX 3TB x3 Storage
    SAMSUNG T23A950 Black 23" 5ms H3D LED x 3
    SAPPHIRE 100310SR Radeon HD 6990 4GB x2
    COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKAA00
Watercooling - dont really know what is best etc, ill put 1000$ aside for that
CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 1200Watt
    Sony Bluray Writer
Yamaha Amp RX-A1010 (couldn't find worthy speakers going with this amp - didn't wanna look more than 30 min so i'll just ad about 2500$)
Logitech G35 Headset, Logitech G9x and Logitech G19

    Total ~ $ 23,780
  17. Too much. Haha.

Id get a custom build done over at MurderBox/MillionDollarPC.

There's alot of parts i didn't post, and the sr2 is a lga1366 socket, which means any lga1366 processor will work with it.

How is that not possible? If your talking power you can always install a dedicated power supply
  20. SLI and CF only support 4 GPUs. The GTX590 already has 2 on it, so you can only run two of them together in SLI.
  21. My Computer ;

Cooler Master Half-X , Custom modified.
    Asus P6X-58-E WS
    Intel i7-980X Extreme @4ghz
    24GB Corsair 9-9-9-24 Pc3 -1600 (1333mhz) @ 1600mhz XMP Profile.
    3 Evga GTX 580 Hydro Copper 2 3gb in 3-way SLI

    2 Intel 64gb SLC SSD
VisionTek Bigfoot Killer 2100 Gaming Network Card
    Antec High Current Pro 1200w
Antec TPQ 1200w ( secondary psu ) for pumps, fans, lights etc.
    LG Blue Ray DVD
    Pioneer DVD r/rw
Custom 2 loop water cooling setup.
Aquacomputer Cuplex Kryos .925 Silver Limited Edition cpu water block
Bitspower Galaxy Freezer DIMM6 RAM Liquid Cooling Block - Ice Red
    7 Feser/Noiseblocker Triebwerk TK-121 NB-Multiframe® 120mm x 55mm Low Speed Fans
    XSPC RX360 Extreme Performance Radiator
    XSPC RX480 Extreme Performance Radiator
    2 Alphacool VPP655 -OT12 pumps
    Fesser 1/2" tubing - red
    Numerous Bitspower fittings
2 Phobya Balancer 150 Gold plated reservoirs
    numerous custom single sleeved cables
    2 mnpctech 120mm Turbine Fan
2 mnpctech Overkill "Ring" 120mm Fan Grill
    LG 27"Flatron Monitor
    Windows 7 Ultimate

Don't really know the price because I didn't have a budget or time frame , I just kept adding and customzing. So far it's been worked on for 2-3 months. I am using it while I'm working on it. My guess would be around $8000.
  22. My dream build:
Asus rampage iii extreme black edition
    Intel Core I7 990x
ASUS MARS II 2-way SLI (Quad SLI)
    G.SKILL Sniper Hexa-Channel 24GB 1600 CL7
    OCZ RevoDrive 960GB 1500 MB/s READ PCI-E SSD
    Ultra X3 1600-WATT Modular PSU
    SILVERSTONE, Temjin TJ11B-W
    Swiftech quad 120mm fan ( RADIATOR )
Swiftech APOGEE-XT Extreme Performance CPU ( WATERBLOCK )
    Swiftech MCP655 ( WATER PUMP ) w/ Speed Controller
    ASUS ML239H Black 23" 5ms IPS Panel ( X3 MONITOR )
    =10140$
And you could through in 200$ extra for a CPU water reservoir, tubing, and fan.

So it's round about 10340$... Anyone wana buy it for me?

All i7's max cpu config is 1, so you can use 2 xeon's on the mobo but only 1 i7.
  24. Case: Mountain Mods UFO - $600
    PSU: Silverstone ST1500 + Corsair TX650 - $450.00
    Motherboard: EVGA Classified SR-2-270 - $589.00

Yeah I know the X58 is getting old and outdated but the Classified SR-2 is the only motherboard currently available that supports the kind of overkill hardware in this system that makes it work! :sol:
  25. IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't use 3 GTX 590 , you can use only two. Quad sli is the limit and each 590 has two gpu's.
  27. ahh, sorry my lack of computer knowledge is coming out :P

Two or three, you cant deny that a computer that cost as much as a Hyundai Elantra would be complete overkill in today's environment.
  29. If I had to place the order right now:

    CPU - AMD X6 1100T - $190
    Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147053 - $130
    Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510 - $140
    Hard Drive - OS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 - $80
    Hard Drive - Data - http://www.newegg.com/Product
    /Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245 - $80
    RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311 - $47
    Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161371 - $150
    PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012 - $120
    Monitors X3 - http://shopping1.hp.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WW-USSMBPublicStore-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start;pgid=icpgq0LP1xZSR0UpN88xfPNu0000Kjmu_OTv;sid=yjTpAYg6IVLrAcayEenIiFA1GDrRcFhz2Cs=?ProductUUID=UUIQ7EN5PMEAAAEyle0CBwpd - $730 - $2190 combined

Figure another $800 for a legal copy of Windows 7, a legal copy of Office 2010, DVD drive, card readers, and odds and ends. Purpose of this system is heavy multi-tasking (6 Word files, 5 FF tabs, random odds and ends), virtual machines, and Photoshop now and then. No gaming outside of online Flash games, but going with the 6790 since it has all the inputs I will need.
