Adapting an 8 pin to a 6 pin slot?

I recently purchased a GTX 560 (non-Ti) and installed it. After several hours of bumbling around in my computer, I was told that it needed two 6-pin connectors for it, but my power supply that I bought to go with the card can only support one, along with the rest of my computer. I was told that an 8-pin adapter can be used in the 6-pin slot, but I have no bloody clue how you'd go about it. Any ideas?

Most 8 pin PCIe power connectors have 2 pins that can be slid off the connector making it into a 6 pin connector.
