HELP!!!

well i was playing some team fortress 2 and then all of a sudden it just started lagging ( from like 180 fps down to 40)
so i checked all my temps and my gpu had gone up to 90C, when usually it idles at 45C and harldy reaches 60C when in-game, i turned my pc off to let it cool down and started it back up, and it just went back up to 90C after a minute, the fan on the card works fine its just gone up to 90C

my pc specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2ghz
HIS HD 6870 (default clocks)
4gb gskill ripjaws ddr3 ram 1600mhz

mobo: MSI 870A G46
psu : coolermaster gx750

running on win 7 64bit

update:

the fan is on 40% (2545rpm)
and is idling at 101C

another update,

i uninstalled AMD catalyst and other gpu drivers and the temp had gone down to what it originally used to be ( 45 C )

but then i installed them back again and it went back to 100C...

but i dont understand why, please help

You have 2 options, either RMA the card, or void the warranty, take it a part and reinstall the HSF. Clearly it's come loose from the CPU and needs a new application of thermal compound.
