for same settings in Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, avg. fps are:
#1. amd athlon x4 + ATI HD 4350 : 28 fps
#2. i3 540 + ATI HD 4350 : 56 fps

let me know if i m right that in i3 540 IGP combines with discrete ATI 4350 together to yield more fps

will the same happen with i3 2100, (perhaps more fps)....

intel integrated gpus do not combine with any other discreet gfx cards. the fps you're getting is due to the 4350 being able to work better with the core i3. the core i3 is more powerful than the athlon x4 to let the gfx card deliver more fps.

woah woah, got any of proof of this? I don't think a 32 fps increase would come from a minorly more powerful CPU... but still, a dual core beating out a quad, thats hard to believe (unless the game is badly optimized)

i think it this way:

athlon x4 + ATI 4350 :- < cpu + gpu> in action (onboard gpu is inactive)

i3 + ATI 4350 :- < (cpu + igp) + gpu> in action (*)

* since there is no onboard gpu in i3 (gpu is inside the processor itself as IGP), so as cpu is active in (i3 + ATI 4350), its igp also contribute in graphics together with ATI 4350.

......
core i3's igp doesn't contribute anything as long as the 4350 is active.
combining igp and discreet gfx is sometimes possible in amd systems like llano + radeon hd 6450/6570/6670 . not in pcs with intel cpus.

i m gonna build a entry level gaming PC:

should i go with:

i3 2100 or phenom x4

REMEMBER:
#1. OC is not preferred.
#2. Only games are to be played apart from viewing movies.
#3. If phenom x4 is better, mention one of comparable rate only.<tight budget> Also advise me a mobo with atleast one PCIEx16 slot for my discrete gpu.
#4. Kindly, post a reply soon.

THANKS in advance for ur valuable time & suggestions.

so the additional fps was only bcoz of 32nm i3 (an advance processor than athlon x4)

however, let me mention when no 4350, i.e., i3 in H55 board gave only 15-20 fps for same display settings in COD MW 2.

With most of our processors and boards when you add in a dedicated video card it will disable the IGP (Integrated Graphics on Processor) unless you are also running the Lucidlogix Virtu software. On a Z68 board that supports the IGP and has the Virtu you maybe able to run up to 3 or more displays (2 off the dedicated video and 1 off the IGP).

There is no way in which to combine the performance of the IGP and a dedicated video card to increased the performance of one or the other.
