machine is Gateway GT5670:
phenom 8400, 64 bit processor, 2MB L3 cache, 2.1 GHz per core
3600 MHz bus
memory: 3072 MB, 667 MHz, DDR2
chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE

if so, will the machine gain speed?

Solution
Yes. They both use the same socket. You may have to update to the latest BIOS version, however.
You will see some increase in speed due to the extra core and later technology, but don't expect miracles. Definitly not a gamer unless you have an adequate graphics card. And with a 300W PSU, you are limited to cards that don't require an external power cable to the card.

thank you,
can you recommend where to download BIOS update?
will a flash drive (usb memory stick with 4 or 8 GB ) increase the speed?
TIA
