i m gonna build a entry level gaming PC:

should i go with:

i3 2100 or phenom x4

REMEMBER:
#1. OC is not preferred.
#2. Only games are to be played apart from viewing movies.
#3. If phenom x4 is better, mention one of comparable rate only.<tight budget> Also advise me a mobo with atleast one PCIEx16 slot.
#4. Kindly, post a reply soon.

THANKS in advance for ur valuable time & suggestions.

Solution
core i3 is better than phenom x4 for non-overclock, entry level gaming pc.
for motherboard, ask in the motherboard section. i'd suggest a z68 motherboard for future upgrade (to ivy bridge or 2500k).

I would usually recommend getting an I5 but if you're on a tight budget then the I3 isn't to bad. As for motherboards I would look at a Z68 chipset motherboard with an 1155 socket.

In the Intel® Core™ i3-2100 you are getting a solid all around gaming processor with the ability to move up to a better processor (like the Intel Core i5-2500K) in the future. Just make sure that you pick up a good Z68 board to give you the most flexibility into the future.

I saw that a similarly priced AMD can only beats a stock SB processor when it is OCed. (eg: i3 2100)

However an OCed SB is way too above the limits of an OCed AMD. (eg: i5 2500K)

i3 2100 is roughly equal to a Phenom II x4 at 3.6-3.7GHz so without overclocking the i3 is better value. Z68 gives a better upgrade path but on budget builds I go more for get a cheap board and a new cheap one when you upgrade, but if you plan to upgrade within 18months then it would be worth it.
