hey guys, i just want to freshing my pc up with some type of upgrade. i was thinking of doing my mobo and ram.

my current build is this

amd 1090t stock clock
msi 870a g54 mobo
corsiar xm3 ram 2x2 1333mhz 9 clocks
saphire 6970 gpu stock clock
a couple of hard drives lol
850w silent pro psu
thermaltake aquarious 3 water cooling.

i used to really be into over clocking, but with this mobo and ram its making it really hard and its not stable. im pretty sure my ram is toast as well. i wanted to upgrade to the asus formula 5 990fx mobo and get 8 ghz of g skil rip jaw ram. 1600 mhz 7c i figure it would be a lot more stable to over clock and a nicer platform. im also waiting inline for the new amd buldozer cpu so i want to be ready with an am3+ mobo. im gunna do some bench marks before and after the upgrade.. what are your guys thoughts.

you wont get higher stock clocked performance but you might get better OCing

keep in mind that phenom's memory controller is on the cpu and not the motherboard . Its not like OCing was a few years ago

I suggest doing that and picking up a 990FX mobo along with some 1866mhz ram and perpare yourself for the bulldozer, that thing overclocks like a beast. The Octacore broke the world record for fastest CPU @ 8.49ghz on Liquid Helium :o

JESUS! lol. i was wondering about ram frequencies. with the reading that ive done it seems like anything over 1600mhz does not make a difference. so i read to get 1600mhz ram with low clock speeds like 7.... or could i buy some 2000 mhz+ 9c ram and it will be able to run at say 1600mhz 7c? or better.

Bulldozers memory controller runs at 1866 MHz , though it can handle lower speeds too .
Probably 1600MHz is still the sweet spot . RAM must be 1.5 volt

ram must be 1.5 volts or lower? or 1.5 and higher? or exactly 1.5?
