What net books cannot do?

The point of a netbook is to be a mobile device that will enable you to do essential computer work on the go. They are tiny enough to put them in your bag and batteries can last for a decent amoung of time.

You can use netbooks for:

- Surfing web
- Social sites
- Youtube
- Word processing (and complete office work for that matter)
- Chat
- Downloading stuff overnight using only a fragment of the power your desktop would use.
- Do everything else that doesn't require C2Quad or GTx280 graphics

You CAN'T:
- Render
- Play new 3D games
- Watch 1080p videos

netbooks
- can't run games on high resolution.
- some (e.g. with older atom cpus) will lag/stutter during hd video playback or high bit rate video playback.
- can't play crysis/metro 2033/gta 4.
- can't render one frame from transformers movie.
- can't play dvd/bd without an external player.
- can't install/reinstall os with an internal odd. you'll need an external odd or - usb stick.
- can't output to 1080p screen and play games well.
- can't score higher in 3dmark than a typically configured pc with core i7 3960x overclocked to 5 ghz stable, with 64 gb ddr3 1866 ram, 512 gb ssd, radeon hd 7970s in 4 way cfx.
- can't multitask as well as the pc mentioned above.
- can't replace your pillow.
- can't replace the little swimmers it fried while sitting on your lap.
- can't replace cpus or gpus.
- can't use thunderbolt/lightpeak.

Source Engine is an exception, not the norm. Most 1st person and 3rd person games generally uses a game engine that is more demanding than the Source Engine.

Of course, Valve has been upgrading the Source Engine ever since Half-Life 2 has been released so in it's current state it is a little more demanding than it was back then.

As popatim has stated, it would be like a glorified smartphone. It can do just about anything a smartphone can do except make phone calls.

When comparing a netbook to a laptop, let's just say it is an underpowered laptop.

Assignment was probably due monday so....

notebooks can't replace wheeljacks,

Manage flight vector trajectories for atmospheric re-entry (factoring in a 30% power loss on the port engine and the fact that the primary buffer panel just fell off)

skateboard, at all

Move like Jagger,
play the blues
and finally, the one thing a netbook really can't do, (Are you ready?)

Mend a broken heart......

Aaaw
:p
