Hi, everyone,

I have the following system:

1. ASUS P5Q Pro
2. Intel Dual Core E7400 2.8 GHZ
3. 4 GB Dual Channel Corsair XMS2
4. 1 Extra Cooling Fan
5. 1 WD Caviar Black SATA HDD
6. 1 DVD-W
7. Antec Earthwatts 500W-D.
6. EVGA Nvidia 9800 GT 512 MB

I decided to replace the 9800 GT with the GTX 560 SC. From what I've read, my PSU has the following:

ANTEC Earthwatts EA-500D
Voltage = Max Load
+5V = 24A
+3.3V = 24A
+12V1 = 22A
+12V2 = 22A
-12V = 0.8A

The card requires a 450watt Minimum with a +12V rating of 24 amps and two PCI-E power dongles. From what I read, my current PSU should be adequate. Is this correct?

Thanks for the help. This PSU stuff is a little confusing.

Regards,
DW

Your PSU will be plenty, if you look at the sticker on the side of it with the load table on it you will see the phrase

"+12V1, +12V2 max. load: 444W"

444 W at 12 V is a max current rating of 37 A for your PSU which is more than enough for a GTX 560 SC. PSU requirements are always the combined power since they are for the system as a whole.

In short, yeah it will work just fine.

Hi, Hunter,

Thanks for that. I thought so too, but when I spoke to Antec directly, he surprisingly said: "You can do it, but you're going to have problems." Given the 500-D specs, I didn't think so, but we agreed to disagree. He wanted me to get a 650 watts. That seemed like overkill given the 12V1 and 12V2 ratings.

Cheers,
DW.
