My setup:
1 x Processor AMD FX-4100 CPU (4x 3.60GHz/4MB L2 Cache)
1 x Processor Cooling Asetek 550LC Liquid CPU Cooling System (AMD) - ARC Dual Silent High Performance Fan
1 x Memory 8 GB [2 GB X4] DDR3-1600 Memory
2 x Video Card AMD Radeon HD 6950 - 2GB - CrossFire
1 x Motherboard ASUS M5A97 -- AMD 970

I feel that this setup should be doing more than it actually is in games.
I can't run much of anything on max settings for any game with decent fps (Which is my goal here)

So~ If my problem is in fact my AMD CPU, then what are some of the best gaming intel CPU's and what is the best intel motherboard that is crossfire ready?

At the end of the day I just want a good gaming rig.

The Intel® Core™ i5-3570K and the Intel Core i5-2500K are thought to be the best gaming processor in terms of performance and value. Matching them up with a board like the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 or the higher end Asus P8Z77-V Pro both of which support SLI and Xfire.

Here is some benchmarks for you to take a look at see if you think there is a value in moving to the Intel processors. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/700?vs=288
