I have had to reinstall WindowsXP Prof. because the registry became
hopelessly corrupted. Now I would like to add some of the Windows components
I've had before -- like Wordpad, calculator, character map, etc. However,
whether I use either direct insertion from the OS CD, or the "Set Program
Access and Defaults" on the Start Menu, which asks for the CD, I'm unable to
do so. I check the boxes for the components I want.... including those
listed in "Details" (and don't check the ones I don't want.) The first time
I did this, the components were installed, but OE and Internet Explorer were
removed (I did not check the boxes for these..... ) I've gone back and forth
several times, checking OE and Internet Explorer (and not checking the boxes
for the other components) and can't seem to get to the point where OE,
Internet Explorer, Wordpad, Calculator, CharMap will be installed
simultaneously. If one batch of components is installed, then something I
installed previously is removed (even though I did not check the box for the
already installed components.) What am I missing?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Jan

Jan,
Open Control Panel and click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
and on the left you will see Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click that and you are on your way... check or uncheck items that
you want loaded.
