$1000-1500 PC for Battlefield 3

Hi all,

I'm looking to build a new PC for BF3, but I haven't kept up on any of the newer stuff since I built my Core 2 Quad PC a few years ago. I'm mainly just looking for advice on the basics - CPU, motherboard, GFX card, and RAM - as nothing else has really changed. I don't do any overclocking so a motherboard with a ton of overclocking features isn't worth it for me - I just want something reliable. Same goes for SLI - I've never done SLI despite always getting a board with two PCI-X slots just in case so its not really a must have feature. I'd also like to future proof this build enough where it should do fine without upgrades for the next two years at least. I'd also like to stick with Intel/nVidia as I'm not a big AMD fan.

Based on my research so far, it looks like I'll want to go with an i5-2500K and a GTX 580 to really be able to do BF3 on Ultra. Unfortunately, the 580 kills a 1/2 of my ideal budget ($1000) so I'm open to any suggestions on other cards.

Approximate Purchase Date: within the next two weeks
Budget Range: $1000 - $1500
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg
Country of Origin: US
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: Unlikely unless its cheaper by some chance
Monitor Resolution: 1680 x 1050

Thanks!

GTX 580 is for Ultra on 1080p. You're resolution would require less. A GTX 560TI might even make it.

i5-2400 $190
Asrock z68 extreme3 gen3 $125
8GB ram (make sure it's 1.5v. ddr3 1600mhz is nice) $55
Samsung f3 1TB $60
Case $50-100
DVD drive $20
PSU - since you're not interested in SLI, get a good quality 550-650w PSU (xfx, corsair, antec, seasonic)
GPU your choice, minimum GTX560TI/AMD 6950
