sorry for the cross post. I put it in the wrong section initially.

Do they make a piece of hardware that tests memory

I work for a company that has boxes of old memory lying around. Is there a piece of hardware or even software that will tell us what it all is so we can inventory it? We need to know the size, speed, parity/non-parity...etc.

If so where can I get such a device and/or program?

thanks

There are a bunch of them out there. Try www.simmtester.com for starters. I haven't used them personally, but I know they exist.

Like the dude said before- there are many memory testing devices and they are simple to use. They're battery operated SIMM/DIMM slots that send data to each address in the memory and make sure the memory can hold it and return it back to the tester in good order. They're not that expensive either. Esp. the old SIMM ones.

When I worked at best buy we had one in the tech bay. They are made, but i forget what brand the one we used was. It did however tell all the information that you needed as well as run test for functionality.

Ok, I asked the guy at the computer show.
He said you can buy them online. I forget the site, its something like memorytester.com or memorychecker.com or memtester.com.
I don't know.
Anyway, he said they cost $2000 to start.
Do you really have that much ram? For $2000 you could buy a lot of newer, faster, higher quality ram.
I guess you need to decide if its really worth it.
