I don't know which one of the two is better, I don't know what this SE and Green means and this 460 looks somehow smaller /shorter/ as a true 460 should be :). Else a good 460 should be better as a 550Ti. But they both are significantly better as a 440.

So your saying the 550ti is better? if so, could it play a game with 1980x1920 regardless of what graphics setting the games at?

The Asus GTX550ti is the better choice.Although the GTX460 SE is slightly faster it consumes nearly 40 watts more and delievers about the same performance. Also the GTX550ti has better DX11 support and better SLI performance.

Both cards will play games at 1080p and are much faster than your GT440.

so apparently a GTX 550 TI is better at handling higher resolutions, as id like to play games at 1980x1020 would it be better to get the 550? also could i also use a gt 440 for dedicated physx and how much would this affect my performance? :)

The cards that you've mentioned are good. But in this case, the GTX 550 Ti does better than the GTX 460 SE. GTX 460 SE is the underclocked version of the card with changes made so as to reduce the power consumption and price.

I'm pretty sure it's 1920X1080 and NOT 1980X1020 :D
For those resolutions, GTX 550 Ti would be better, but not to mention, what type of games are you willing to play ? Graphically intensive games like Crysis and Metro, playing at 1080p would give some stuttering unless you lower the details. So, if you can try and expand the budget, I'd get a GTX 560 Ti.

A GT440 for dedicated physx means that you'll notice the performance increase only in games that make use of physx such as Mafia 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Cryostasis etc. On games that doesn't use physx, you won't notice any sorts of performance increase.

A GT440 could be run as a PhysX card with the GTX550ti but the peroformance gain wouldn't even be worth it(like 5fps).Also you would probably need a bigger PSU to support 2 cards.

What are your full system specs?(CPU,RAM,etc.)

What is the make/model of your power supply?

For a total of about £330

Okay the max im willing to pay is £150 for a graphics card so if you can link me a GTX 560 TI for around that price be my guest :) but ive decided im willing to pay for this http://www.ebuyer.com/232853-gigabyte-gtx-460-oc-1gb-gddr5-oc-edition-dual-dvi-hdmi-pci-e-gv-n460oc-1gi

So if the 560 TI is ALOT better, please let me know :)

as for the physx dependant gt 440, forget i said it :)

I would spend some more on the CPU.For just $30 more you can have a full Phenom ii with all the cache and a unlocked multiplier. It's well worth it,imo.

Seems that a GTX560ti is just out of your budget.I would suggest going with a 6870 instead. The 6870 is faster than the GTX460 and only slightly slower that the GTX560ti.So it's right about in the middle of those 2.

Sapphire 6870

This is what should should get as the CPU.

The extra money is well worth it.

Okay cheers for the information, forgot to mention, the only games i plan on playing and play atm are Starcraft2 and Star wars the old republic when its released, i cant imagine its the most graphically demanding game around :)

SC2 is very CPU demanding. And it would be a wise decision to get the 955.But with the 955 and a 6870 orGTX460 it should last you a while.Couple of years or more maybe.Defnitly should be able to cover the next SC expansions.
