Hello everyone.a friend of mine asked me to help him in building a rig to play BF3 at high settings with 40+ FPS/-.budget is around $1800 but i will lend him $200 more :D :D :sol: :sol:
we will buy as soon as possible in this week i guesssssss

here's something i decided-

the Samsung 24 inch monitor is fine for gaming, otherwise there is a good Dell 2410 but its pricey as an IPS/ panel. Good slection of components Id say, can't go wrong with any of the permutations. You don't need a 850W PSU unless you want him to SLI in future. 650W is fine. Btw... hope he isn't too disappointed with BF3, plenty of other good games to play on PC.

how do you know? the beta is a buggy messy that doesn't have all the graphical features implemented. I don't see much difference between medium / high / ultra and even my build can handle on high at what looks like a smooth 50 fps+. We won't know how BF3 runs on ultra until its released!!

In all fairness, he did say at "present" meaning the BETA will run 70+ FPS.....he made no indication the final game release would achieve the same frame rate.....

Maximus_Delta your rig is pretty good IMO.i have not tested BF3 beta on my rig cause everyone is saying that the BETA is not as realistic and graphic intense as the original
game.

BF3 is coded for SLI so why not take advantage of it now? Dual gtx 560 ti's in SLI > single gtx 580.

allright cutebeans but what about other games? i agree that i mentioned it as a BF3 rig but i think every rig has the right to play any game,right?
i have seen 2600k beating phenoms in almost every benchmark.
and remember these benchmarks are tested with BETA not the original game

why _me i thnik you are a fanboy of corsair i guess(i have seen your many posts suggesting 500r).i respect your help but i dont think that a 500r is better than HAF X.
i told my friend to for i5 2500k but some people want to show their "i7" things ( i dont know why?)
2 560s will smoke a 580 but side effects - extra power consumption,heat,noise and no upgradability.
i dont think theres much difference between 212+ and EVO(if there is let me know),frios,dh-14s,V6s and V8 perform better than a 212+ almost in every situation IMO
+1 for the accessories and ssd but a 23inch or 24inch would be better.
Please continue the topic

Most games are GPU intensive not CPU intensive. Especially for an average gamer, he won't even notice the fps that a cpu gives unless it's a very big jump. As long as it doesn't lag, it's fine lol.

Also if BF3 is okay with a phenom ii, it just goes to show you that games don't need to much cpu power but it's in the GPU. Also, didn't read too much but a single 580 is always better than weaker dual cards.

Cases are a personal choice imo. I threw that Corsair in there for not only price point, but practicality. As far as the upgrade thing goes...who is going to upgrade to another $500 580 when the new generation vid cards are due out around the first of the year? I mean seriously most peeps are going to get those new cards that will be supported by Ivy Bridge (PCI-E 3.0) instead of blowing another $500 on old technology. Right now only two manufactures give you the chance for upgrade with those new cards and that's Asrock and MSI. MSI has one board out for that, and Asrock has like five boards (gen3).

So it's like this. A person can spend $500 on a single card now with the hopes of spending another $500 later on down the road on old tech, or SLI now for $450 and get it on. And as far as power goes...a 750w psu to push dual 560ti's in SLI, a 950w psu to push dual 580's in SLI and a single 650w to push a single 580. You can push dual 580's with a 850w psu, but your life span on that psu is going to be short...and I mean really short for the fact it's going to run balls to the walls with two of those cards, leave you little if anything for head room, and it's going to run hot.

As far as heat issues go with dual cards...that's why peeps get cases with side and top cooling like that HAF X and that Corsair I posted....otherwise they would get a board meant for a single card and never worry about getting a second card later...and some do like those builds, and some like dual vid cards. Again to each his own.

As far as the coolers go...that EVO has a few improvements over the older 212+ it replaced. More and better placed pipes, a better fan set up..not to mention that fan can be moved up to clear the heat spreaders on the RAM, and of course it has lower temps than the older 212+. The Frio is a good one, but it's way loud, and the V8 was a total piece of crap when it first came out, and it hasn't improved over the years. It was never a top of the line cooler and the benchmarks prove that. It's big, heavy, and doesn't cool near what it should for what it cost. Your paying for a lot of metal with that cooler and nothing more other than maybe looks. You can add another fan to that EVO for a "push - pull" effect to bring your temps down even more. Also remember anything past 4.4Ghz gives you minimal FPS more if any at all. Past 4.4Ghz your lucky to get 1-3 more FPS yet it takes more volts and heat to get past 4.4Ghz.

I really don't understand why people want to show off a rig since most people don't even know or care what parts are inside the PC.

You can't impress your GF with that.
You can't impress the average user with that.
You can't even impress your mom with that.

Personal experience, I have a friend who asked me how much HDD space does my HDD have and when I answered 500gb. She said WOW! That thing must be fast! Mine is only 160gb.

The 500r is more affordable and provides the same level of features and efficiency, hence why its being recommended over the HAF X.

i7-2600k will make no difference to FPS during game play than an i5-2500k. Don't be fooled into spending more than you need to.

SLI "side effects" - I wouldn't worry about heat or noise, GTX 560Ti's are very good with both of these. MSI and Gigabyte model's especially run nice and quiet with low temps.

The difference between 212+ and EVO is minimal, but so is the price difference, so its worth paying an extra few $ for an extra bit of cooling. More expensive coolers might perform better statistically, but unless you really pushing an over-clock to its limits, there's no need to pay x3 what you need to. I'm running a nice budget CPU cooler - Arctic Freezer 13, 92mm fan, and its keeping my CPU under 65 degree's at a 4.5GHz Overclock....dont need any better cooling than this and it came at a minimal price.

I agree that a single 22" monitor might be a tad small, but its a nice size if you ever plan to add more monitors, x3 24" can be a little over-whelming.

The purpose of this build it seems the intention is to just "show off".....No real thought is going into price vs performance vs user needs. There's really very little point posting her on TOMs asking for build advice if your going to ignore what's being said and have the single intention to be able to say "i've got this, i've got that".

Slam a i7-2600k, shove in an e-ATX motherboard, grab a HAF X, put a GTX 580 in and you may as well grab a H70 (watercooling) and 1500w PSU too. Oh and a few 1TB drive's so you can say you have more storage space than anyone else :eek:

i told you that the person for whom i am building this is almost non experienced in hardware selections and computer building.i told him theres not much difference between 2600k and 2500k but still he wants to say that "i7 and gtx 580 rig" thing.
i know that its a kind of overkill him but everyone of you can understand my situation.if i tell him to get i5 instead of 2600k,500r(xellent mid tower IMO)instead of the HAF X,he will call me a "jealous".i know that you all are trying to help me out in less money but i already told in what kind of situation i am.

if he already knows what core components he wants why has he handed the build over to you... this all seems strange. I think you should just let him do the build so he can learn something in process as at the moment he seems to have a little bit of knowledge only and we all know that can be a dangerous thing.
