Sata inteface problem

Hello,
i just bought a new dvd burner with sata interface my computer have the sata power cable and on the mother board have sata 1 and sata 2 .i purchased a sata cable and plugged it in . but when the drive spins up my monitor goes all lines and weird colors and i can't see anything and I have to restart the computer again.

Does it work right if you disconnect the DVD burner?

yes it works fine when i disconnect the burner or when ever the burner not running . it will play a audio cd no problem , play a dvd but with no sound and as soon as your go to try and burner a cd or dvd it screws up the monitor
