My only advice is to be wary of buying products from companies that no longer exist. I have a diamond MX 300 and neither Diamond nor Aureal are around anymore to help with problems, of which there are many with the new i815 and VIA based boards.

I would still get the MX400. It is a solid card. The last driver release that diamond did for the card was solid. It has support for EAX (environmental audio). Mp3's never flinch on that card either, even with my 166.

MX400 is a good card- go for it. The Sonic Impact line is quite old- stay away from it.
