Thermo paste?

Hello, just picked up a boxed I7 2600k and does not come with thermo paste. Should I use or if I don't plan on OC should I bother?

I thought the non OEM CPU came with it but its been a loooong time since I built a PC.

I personally have never seen a retail or OEM CPU packed in with thermal paste, and the 2600K is no different. You should always use thermal paste whether you're overclocking or not.

Thermal paste is required, if you don't put any on you have a very high chance of killing your CPU. Whether you plan to OC or not.

There should be thermal paste pre applied to the base of its heatsink, likely in the form of a couple strips of gray goo. All boxed CPUs from both AMD and Intel ship with thermal paste preapplied to their heatsink, OEM chips come with no heatsink, and therefore no thermal paste applied to it.

It does not come with a tube of paste, but there IS some on the CPU cooler that comes with it. It is grey and is on the bottom and is pre-applied.

Going without thermal paste will make your CPU too hot.

Aye there is strips...so don't use paste correct?

You can, but you don't need to. But if you do, scrape off the paste on the stock cooler. If you plan to overclock please I beg of you do not use the stock cooler.

The amount of contact you lose by not having thermal paste will render any cpu cooler worthless. Unless you solder the cpu to the cooler, but that would likely kill your cpu anyways...
