Well the main Pro for the 6850 is it's the faster card out of the three. It should be comparible in temps and voltage to the 5770, so that should be a pro as well. Only con is it will use more power than the 6790, but if you planning on gaming you don't want the 6790 with a decent monitor anyway.

While those cards are about evenly spaced in price they are not in performance. The HD6790 isn't much more powerful than the HD5770/6770. The HD6850 is a nice amount more powerful than either while not costing much more than the HD6790. Basically just forget about the HD6790 and decide between the other two. On the Nvidia side you also may want to consider the GTX 460 which is on par with the HD6850.

I don't think you know what you are talking about, the HD 6790 actually uses MORE power than a HD 6850.

Yeah, the HD 6790 is actually based on the HD 6870's PCB, so it can have either 2 or one 6pin plugs in it.

Also, if you can, get a GTX 550 ti, they are usually cheaper than a HD 6790 and perform the same.

The HD6790/6850/6870 all use the same core. The HD6790 and HD6870 use the same PCB which is larger and requires more power than the one the HD6850 uses. The HD6790 also runs at a higher clock speed than the HD6850(though it has more shaders disabled) which also uses more power.
The same applied to the HD5830 and the HD5850/70.
