Hello,

I'm not really sure where to post this since it's not exactly a soundcard issue or a graphics card issue, it's a monitor issue. I just bought an ASUS V238H monitor that I use both for my PC (DVI) and my PS3 (HDMI). Currently I have PC speakers plugged in to the PS3 by SCART, which I then have to unplug and plug into my PC. So while going back and forth between DVI and HDMI is easy, the audio is a pain in the ass.

I suddenly remembered today that the monitor has built-in speakers, and when I took a look on the back there are indeed two output jacks, one green and one black. Exactly what I have on my speakers. So I plugged the speakers in and got no audio from my PC. I tried headphones and got nothing there either. I tried the PS3 and found I could get audio out of the speakers but only by plugging the green jack in, not the black one. The black one renders everything mute again. And I have to turn the speakers all the way up to be able to hear anything, which also causes a loud hissing sound. I played with the sound output settings on the PS3 and this was the best I could do.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice? It seems like such a simple thing to do but it won't work. The monitor menu only has a volume control, there is nothing else relating to audio or the built-in speakers. Perhaps the inputs are broken, I don't know. The built-in speakers seem to work fine through HDMI so it must be something to do with the inputs. But since there are no drivers or any software for the monitor, I'm kind of stuck on what to try next, or whether to just give up and stick to what I'm doing now, which while being a pain at least works.

Honestly, monitor speakers usually have terrible sound. If you like speakers for the ps3, simply get a headphone for your PC, conect it directly to the PC. Monitors should handle image only.
