RAM question

I am building a gaming pc soon. The motherboard I am using is the asus rampage iv extreme and for the ram speeds it says

Memory Standard
DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066

Can I use ram with the speeds of 2133 and still have it stable?

Also what 16 gb (4x4gb) ram sets are great? I will buy two sets to have 32 gb in total.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Have you looked at this?
    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/Rampage_IV_Extreme/R4E-DRAM-QVL.pdf

Other memory may work, but this has been tested by Asus.
  2. So I can put 2400 ram in it?
  3. Yes, you can. Depending on the CPU, it might run at 2400 or not. I would use configurators for finding compatible kits. For example
    http://www2.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?sc=us&id=2400137
  4. Well I know the IMC of AMD's chips. Phenom II's like 1333Mhz ram and bulldozer/piledriver likes 1866Mhz, not sure about intel. I don't think I would go as high as 2400Mhz yet because the IMC of current cpu's are not optimized for those speeds yet.
  5. I'm using a i7 3930K I will check.
