alright, i got the new powersupply for the Compaq Presario SR1710NX and now one of the things im lookin into is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2GHz CPU Processor

socket 939, im wanting to know is the stock fan enought?, im not aware if hp just uses alot of the same parts on a bunch of their models or not?

if yall want to know why im upgradin such a low pc, well lets just say it was free, and even though i got 8 computers in my house only 2 are dual, so im aimin to have a 3rd now mainly cause one of the duals is a laptop :(

anyways im just wonderin if the stock will be fine, and also if the board supports it

Looks like your motherboard can handle the Athlon 64 X2 3800, see the following link to HP's website for the specification of your machine, (HP own Compaq) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc [...] ct=1817035

Looks like your machine will support all the way up to a X2 4800 CPU. I would say the stock heatsink should be fine but to be on the safe side, I would suggest buying a better one, look on eBay. You won't need anything too fancy, unless you want to overclock???
