I recently bought an acer 5755g-6823 and have been very pleased with it. What should the temperature be on idle and under max load? I was running Company Of Heros and Assassins Creed Revelations, the games seemed to be running great with decent frame rates. After about 5 mins though, I noticed that my CPU was running at 90 degrees Celsius. This seems rather high to me. I am used to my desktop card that ran BF3 at a max of 75 degrees Celsius after 2 hours of game play. Is this normal?

Depends on the how the laptop chassis was designed to handle heat. The TJMax for an i5-2530m is 100c. Of course, it is best for the temp to be much lower.

I have a similar situation with my Lenovo IdeaPad Y470. The i5-2430m gets as high as 92C. After speaking with Lenovo and reading some professional reviews about the Y470, the 92c is typical when playing games. The people who wrote those reviews basically shrugged it off since the laptop is stable after hours of gameplay.

I decided to buy a CoolerMaster laptop cooler with 2 movable fans. It did not reduce the temps. I'm sure it has to do with how the laptop is designed since other people who used the CoolerMaster for whatever laptops they had typically reported around a 3c - 5c decrease in temps. I got 0c decrease.

I decided to turn off Turbo Boost so that the laptop does not try to overclock itself. That brought down temps to around 82c - 84c.

I have had CPU heat issues with every laptop I have ever owned.I learned that if you put the max processor state to 99% in the power options I do this with all my laptops, it really makes a difference in temps and you don't notice any speed difference.I have the same processor as you in a gateway laptop I don't see temps over 64c after hours of gaming and an AMD Turion II in an HP laptop.I got the HP a few years ago I use to see temps around 95c since I have started putting max processor state to 99% I never see temps over 65c and I notice no speed decrease.I use to notice lagging when my temps would hit 95c though. You might give it a try and see if it helps.I also figure the lower temps will give my laptops a longer life
