Dell Latitude C600 Display problem

Hello, I have two identical Dell Latitude C600 Pent. IIIE 750 MHz laptops with 14.1 inch screens, both of which work OK on laptop 1; but turning on on laptop 2 the screen only gives a bright flash, the stays dark. Either laptop will give good output to a standard monitor connected to the video port. I tried reseating the flat screen connector sometimes I got a little better flash. What else can I check?? (ATI Mobility M3 Adapter)
