basically i got my new i7 2600k all set up today (no overclock) i started to do the usually string of tests but i noticed something odd. If i look at the clock speed in cpu z or occt it is changing ALOT can go from 3400 drop to 1200 back up to 3400 drop to 1000 over and over again. I have never seen anything like this on a non over clocked cpu what could be causing this ? Any help is good thanks

to be honest i forgot about turbo boost  and now that i think about it is nice to have but i just dont get why its doing that under load (compressing loads of files) thats the only reason im a bit thrown off

You might want to nab the Windows 7 gadget - Turbo Boost. It's a nice thing and monitors your frequency. I find CPUZ is actually really slow to update, sometimes it doesn't update at all.

I've never used OCCT so not sure about that one.

Real Temp is also pretty decent for showing CPU speed (and temps).
