First Boot Up w/o Installing OS?

So I've just finished assembling my first system build but I'm still waiting on my OS (it's in the mail) and maybe a SSD, if I can pick one up cheap. I was wondering (since I'm naturally a bit paranoid) if I can do a boot test/configure the BIOS without installing the OS from disk afterwards. Anyone know if this is possible?

If all the parts are installed correctly, when you power up the machine you should get a BIOS screen and then after that an error about the OS not being found.

Thanks for the answer. I did a first boot and (besides scare with a lose cable hitting a fan) everything looked fine .
