I'm playing BG1 Tutu (ie. using the BG2 engine). Latest versions, all
fully patched.

I promise I've read every FAQ and guide I can find, and browsed every
site etc. Still two questions I can't find answers to:

1. Where can I look up stat requirements for equipment? My ranger has
STR 16 and can't wield a composite long bow, and my cleric has STR 10
and can't wear a medium shield. I can't find anything in the game
manuals or on the net that lists these (and presumably all the other)
requirements.

2. I've found lots of posts about the shadow armour for sale in
Beregost. The thing is, none of them answer this question: if it's
basically just +3 studded leather, surely it has *hideous* penalties
to all the thief abilities as per normal studded leather? If so then
it's hardly worth it just for the +15% stealth. If not, then why
doesn't it say so anywhere ....

Yours bemused (but belatedy awestruck by this great game),

Look at the item's own description. It should say it in the item's
description - double-click on the item itself.

I don't think penalties for studded leather have actually been
implemented.

Studded leather doesn't penalize thief abilities.

I've had this problem too.
Some of the items list STR reqs, but I think those items come from the BG
II data base.
I don't know the STR req for medium shield, but it's 13 for a Large
Shield, and 18 for a Composite Longbow (how Kobolds can wield them is
something I'll never understand).
To add to the confusion the Composite Longbow +1 seems to have *no* STR
req.

It doesn't, but I think I know what the problem is: the reqs were
introduced in BG2, but the Tutu uses the BG1 item descriptions, right?
Just a guess ...

Ah. That would explain why everybody's so nuts about it. Also why my
Thief's abilities (shown on the record screen) don't go down when he
puts on studded leather.

Ho hum.
